Wow! When I hear engagement rings, I feel butterflies in my stomach. A ring, a diamond and love all the things like that. But you know what the traditional engagement ring diamonds are being replaced by colored stones like sapphires, rubies or even natural color diamonds. And like always the trend is celebrity inspired. But I feel the credit of replacing the traditional diamond ring goes to Princess Diana. The style icon, Princess Diana was known for following her heart. When it came to her engagement ring, she again chose to be non-traditional. Her engagement ring was an astounding 18 carat oval shaped blue sapphire surrounded by 14 small diamonds in an elegant cluster setting. This beautiful ring is said to have caused quiet a stir for many reasons. One – royalty disapproved for the ring was not specially designed for Diana and two – for the obvious reason that it was not a traditional diamond ring. But designers and fashion enthusiasts were all excited for the ring was, according to them, a cult.
